The agriculture sector faces various challenges that threaten economic stability and global food security because most of it is still strongly supported by conventional agriculture. That technique has developed and widely adopted worldwide since the mid-20th century. This practice is mainly characterized by the intensive use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and a monoculture. This condition has led to environmental pollution, land degradation, and negative impacts on biodiversity and human health. Furthermore, the monoculture has simplified the management and harvesting process, which implies reducing soil nutrients, increasing susceptibility to pests and diseases, and reducing resistance to environmental stress. Although conventional agriculture may generate short-term economic benefits, it may not be economically sustainable in the long term, especially in the face of ecological degradation and resource depletion.
The concept of regenerative agriculture is a promising approach to overcoming environmental challenges. Regenerative agriculture aims to restore and regenerate the natural systems on which agriculture depends. Regenerative agriculture has a holistic approach to agriculture that seeks to improve ecosystem health, biodiversity, and soil fertility while mitigating climate change. The resulting ecosystem balance encourages a healthier and more resilient agricultural system so that it can better withstand pest population explosions and adapt to changing environmental conditions. The shift towards regenerative agriculture requires not only the adoption of new concepts but also changes in thinking and policy support. Universities, research agencies, and policymakers play an important role in creating and enabling positive environmental change through supportive policies and providing infrastructure for market access.
The aim of ASIC 2024 is to strengthen knowledge regarding regenerative agriculture and develop partnerships with all stakeholders to advance knowledge in the agricultural sector, especially related to our theme. Panel and parallel sessions will examine points to accelerate its realization and sustainability. Furthermore, we also provide opportunities for post-conference publications in various media, including international journals and conference proceedings. This conference offers a unique opportunity to gather, share knowledge, and chart a course toward a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future.
